Find out what's happening in the area of Horizon Europe, Digital Europe and Horizon 2020
Under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2021-2027) five missions aim to deliver solutions to major challenges for Europe. The five possible missions proposed by the Mission Boards, the independent experts advising the European Commission, are:
• Conquering Cancer: Mission Possible
• Accelerating The Transition To A Climate Prepared And Resilient Europe
• Regenerating our Ocean and Waters
• 100 Climate-Neutral Cities by 2030 - by and for the citizens
• Caring for Soil is Caring for Life
Future timeline
A number of online citizen engagement events will take place over the summer to further listen to the priorities of Europeans and gather their ideas. The Mission Boards will hand over their final recommendations to the Commission at the ‘European Research & Innovation Days’ (22-24 September 2020). The Commission will announce its selected missions at the end of 2020. The missions will launch in 2021 as part of Horizon Europe, the next EU research and innovation programme.

The MareGraph project, ‘Towards an Interoperable Marine Knowledge Graph’, obtained funding under the Digital Europe topic ‘OPEN-AI – Public Sector Open Data for AI and Open Data Platform’. The project will increase the semantic, technical, and legal interoperability of three selected high-valued datasets (HVDs) all maintained by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), which is one of the four partners of the project. This will allow the onboarding of essential marine datasets in the Common European Data Spaces. As such MareGraph will provide a structural component in the digital transition of the marine landscape. The numerous impacts of the project will benefit our seas globally in old and new ways to come.
